Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
The Advanced Practice Provider, NP or PA is an active member of the sports medicine provider team who; establishes medical diagnosis(es) and determines a plan of care for short term health problems, stable chronic health problems and/or exacerbation of stable chronic health problems; orders and reviews routine diagnostic studies, with delegating physician oversight; provides preoperative and postoperative work up and care; first assists in the operating room as delegated by supervising physician; makes daily rounds on all inpatients; demonstrates basic medical knowledge of pediatric orthopedics and surgical techniques; participates in educational activities of the hospital such as case conferences, symposia, and professional educational meetings; dictates, completes and/or signs medical records, forms, and letters related to patients treated by the Advance Practice Provider NP or PA in an accurate and timely manner; participates in mortality and morbidity conferences and performance improvement activities as assigned. Requires frequent use of various and sundry surgical/clinical equipment.
Must be a graduate of an accredited advanced practice registered nursing program (APRN) or physician assistant (PA) program and are certified through a recognized accrediting agency and hold a current Texas license.
Two years of experience in pediatric orthopedics or sports medicine with first assistant operating room experience and basic fracture management experience is strongly preferred.
Membership and active participation in professional organizations are beneficial and the desire to participate in pediatric sports medicine research is encouraged.
NP applicants with RNFA certification are preferred, NP candidates without RNFA certification would be required to obtain RNFA certification.
